A previous thread of mine

http://www.diabetes.org/diabetes-symptoms.jsp

I seem to have 5/7 symptoms. Plus that other sh!t in the other thread.

But the risk test on the same link posts me @ 0 risk which is very low.

When I quit playing hockey @ 14 years old, I dropped from 172lb to 138lb in less than 6 months. I'm now 18 and still only weigh 143lb (6 feet tall). That's drastic weight loss which could be a 6th symptom...?

Yes, I know I can goto a doctor, but Canadian Health Care is failing as it is so I feel guilty for using up his time when I'm probably just worrying myself....

well, out of all those symptoms, the one i would be most concerned with would be blurry vision, as the others aren't necessarily very bad on their own. what symptoms do you have, and how severe are they?

and i'd say go see a doctor. better to find out now that you have diabetes (or not) before you start having complications.

Well...I counted blurry vision, but how can I tell since I wear glasses? lol...

my vision is never terribly sharp though..

i have excessive fatigue (i've been to the doctor for this a few years ago...he was mystified. told me to eat less starch. i eat almost no starch, and i still sleep excessively and never feel quite rested)

i drink easily 1.5 gallons of liquid a day

i urinate once or twice an hour

and im one grumpy bastard almost always

EDIT: i also remember occasions where i'll eat some sugary sh!t and feel way better. ie last week i downed a pepsi after feeling quite dizzy and generally lousy (but not naucious) at work and felt worlds better. i usually drink 3 pepsi's on an 8.5 hour shifts (i dont drink pop when im not working)

If it were IDDM you'd already be dead. But you may have type 2 or be pre-diabetic so why not see a doctor?

Hmm, I have 6/7 included temporal blurry vision. Just sometimes I can't see sh|t, but it usually fades away in about 5 mins. The only one I don't have is weight loss, more of a gain, but that's because I work out a lot, so added muscle mass adds up (since muscle weighs more than fat).

Should I visit a doctor? Would he have to take blood samples?

Because I have extreme needlephobia. I'm scared of a person with a needle. I can't watch anything involving needles on TV. I can see a man get shot and not feel a damn thing, but the second they prick a needle in their veins, I feel like puking.

So..

uhm, you would be wasting far more of doctors time if you don't go now and then it shows you do have diabetes. AFAIK it's just a blood sample that needs to be analyzed, atleast at first point.

Also you don't need to worry if proffesionels take care.

Get it checked now. From the way you describe it, it sounds like you have it. And since you're ~18 years old, it's probably type 1. I was 19 when I was diagnosed with Type 1.

In my case, I had almost all of the symptoms but didn't realize it until I finally went in because my left leg had gone numb. Originally I thought it was a pinched nerve but turns out I was wrong.

And people in the US want universal healthcare like Canada...It is so bad up there that Scouzer won't even go to the doctor when he obviously should!

Sounds like it's pretty likely....

The other thing you can do is just get one of those test kids and prick your finger a couple of times to measure your blood sugar. If it's outside normal ranges for someone your age, you should see your doc regardless of whether you have diabetes or not.

I have three syptoms on that list:

Frequent urination
Irritability
Blurry vision

But that's because I'm getting old. :p

Get checked out. Pronto. The damage you do to your body by ignoring it is IRREVERSIBLE.
