Wondering how to check my HDD settings under Linux; i.e. UDMA Mode 3,4,5, etc. as it seems a little slow. How do I do that?

You can run hdparam -t <DEVICENAME> to see what the actual transfer speeds are. This, of course, requires you to have that program in your path or to find that program on your system. Most system have it so you shouldn't have to.

Or you can try dmesg, and see the boot-up messages. You should see some good info there.

hda: Maxtor 92048D8, 19531MB w/1024kB Cache, CHS=2489/255/63, UDMA

thats what I have, gives basic info.

more can be found in /proc/ide just look around and cat stuff.

and hdparm will can be used to benchmark your drive..

Hope it helps,
