No way CPU should run a full 12C warmer with light or little use on one board versus the other is there? 1302 BIOS on premium and 602 on A8R32-MVP.

What temps should be expected for a Opteron 185 at stock speed of 2.6?

My new 939 dual core 3800 idles at about 34C at 2010Mhz. When stressing both cores with Cinebench rendering it hits a max of about 51C. New install with AS5 and a stock cooler, no lapping or anything. It goes to 42C starting CPU-Z, maxes at 46C running 1M super pi.

This was read in Speedfan 4.31, Win2000, Asus A8N-E board.

I have a 4200+ X2 on an Asus M2A-VM board running 33*C idle, and anywhere from 48*C to 51*C under a full load (2 instances of F@H) depending on the temperature of my office.
I'm using the retail heatsink.

The temp you see depends on which sensor is being reported and where it is located.

Uppsala, how do you like the Asus M2A-VM? Have you tried Linux on it by chance?

I like the board. It really has no oc ability (multiplyer and fsb is about it), but I was more after something stable.
I'm running XP Pro on it, so no Linux experience with it.

The onboard video is pretty good and watching a movie on it was a good experience.
I did have some sound issues, but that was because the driver set the output to zero. All I did was slide the bar to max, and the problem was solved. It is a nice board with some good features for a good price (got it at newegg). Knowing it wasn't going to oc for me before I bought it, I would have to give it a 5 out of 5 for performance and stability.

EDIT: One issue I did have when hooking everyhting up was getting the mobo to recognize my HD (IDE). I was using some cables of my own and it just wouldn't read my drive. Finally I decided to use the one that came with the board and it instantly read it. So, I decided to try the old one I had one last time (have 3 sets of them and couldn't believe all 3 went bad) and it read it. Odd. I have no idea why it didn't recognize it the first 5 times... That was about a 15 minute episode of frustration.

Thanks for the info on the Asus M2A-VM. I am returning the thread to the rightful owner now.

I also found some other 690G boards trickling onto the market last night.

I believe I'm having the same issues as the OP. I'm building one last hurrah before the DX10 migration. I have a A8R32-MVP, a X57 at 2.98 and a 1950xtx 512 version. It's for old times sake really and I got the proc for very very cheap. Anyway, this cpu runs at 44-45 at idle on this board. My current rig is a 4400 x2 at 2.5 which idles at 38 on an A8N-sli premium. It does seem odd.
