Short of the recent expensive airfare, the $ goes pretty far in Costa Rica. We have family down there and usually go twice a year.

Last year, we had a full dinner for two (two 1/2lb burgers, fries, and drinks) at a decent restaurant for around $3-4 total.

The country has it touristy parts though, and you can pay quite a bit more in some areas.

Actually, the majority of western europeans love americans. It is the Bush cronies that would have you believe otherwise...if you're the type to actually believe the ****** that comes out of his administration (identical to how Mussolini and Hitler got started with their "us vs them" propaganda).

Anyway, Russia is only dangerous if you somehow piss their cosa nostra off. Just don't do that, and you'll probably be fine. I would recommend the Czech Republic for your cost per entertainment quest, but since they have recently joined the EU, the nice 25 cent beers are costing about $4 now.

Check out Croatia or Serbia. Croatia kicks ass; and Serbians, despite our bombing of them, actually love Americans (esp Bill Clinton). They're just pissed at Albright.
 
everyone knows how much i love to cruise and it really would be everything you are looking for. You can cruise to the caribbean or Mexico for 4-7 days from many ports throughout the US, can have an inside stateroom, but be treated just the same as everyone else who might have suites, etc.

Food/drinks are always flowing and gourmet. Entertainment is first class. You don't have to worry about what kind of hotel you will be staying at. You know your cabin will be cleaned when you come back from touring the island/ports.

You can do as much or as little as you want.

Did I say Mexico? And you obviously haven't been anywhere if you say Cancun is the only redeeming value. Have you ever been to Cozumel? Cabo? I didn't think so. Anywhere south of the border goes from mexico down the tip of chile/argentina/brazil.
 
Is cancun the only redeeming thing about Mexico b/c it is filled with posterized resorts and drunken, a-hole american springbreakers? If you actually spend a little time off the gated resorts, you'll see the actual Cancun that is just as crime-ridden and dirty as most people perceive Mexico to be. Besides, most people travel for culture--not for partying. I don't know why anyone would want to travel anywhere just to party or club. What's the freaking point? You can do that anywhere here.

DR is extremely popular these days, as is Costa Rica. Another place to consider is Panama--one of the better eco-tourism countries on the planet. It's probably the number one site for bird watchers. It helps to know people there though; as it can be rather corrupt/ difficult to get around otherwise.
 
Thailand, hands down.

Although I have to admit that Russia is probably the cheapest. Maybe Bulgaria. I spent 5.5 weeks in Russia and spent about $250 for two of us. Was staying with family though.

Cancun is one step behind Paris. Blah! Head farther south to Belize etc or at the very least hit up Playa Del Carmen or Cozumel.

I went there on my honeymoon and really enjoyed it. We visited some Mayan ruins which are about an hour south and another about an hour or so inland. The water is beautiful down there, if you like snorkeling or diving it's a great place to visit.

Stay out of downtown and pretty much anywhere outside of the resort area as it is very depressed and dirty...like most of Mexico.
