intro microeconomics
intro macroeconomics
english, grammar and composition (1 quarter each)
intro comp. sci (1 quarter)
first year of calculus
intro financial accounting (1 quarter)
apprec. of architecture, both ancient and modern
at least one quarter of latin, 😛 (well, any foreign language, at most schools I think they require 1 full year)
history (1 quarter)
civics (1 quarter)
psych (1 quarter)
statistics (AT LEAST 1 quarter)

IMO, I cannot emphasize the importance of taking the intro micro and macro economics, statistics, english grammar/composition and civics. The concepts taught are so... fundamental. You NEED to know this stuff!

from a business major...but i would take all those except accounting classes, more math, no business law, no architecture, and no latin

There were too many to remeber (I repressed many). Economics is one that EVERYONE should take. You should have to taken an economics exam before being able to vote.

masterpieces of western literature and philosophy

some intro classes about non-Western cultures
a foreign language

Reasoning: Many people simply do not know how to logically structure an argument. Discrete teaches you how to make a proof you can stand behind.

BS. I'm sorry but I go to university to learn about what I want, not what society thinks I should know. I already had to suffer through many courses about general engineering (civil, mechanical, materials etc). If I had to take general courses about all the stuff you listed, I would go crazy.

While making ppl learn about these things is good, it should be done in highschool, not in university.

Me and Marty are in the same program at the same Uni.

We cannot choose courses until 4th year. In 2nd year we can choose an elective. That's it.

Our 1st year courses are given to us.

I think everyone should learn economics, but in highschool (where I learnt it). But ideally, that should come from their parents.

btw, Marty are you done the digi lab?

I say you should be able to take whatever you want in university with no restrictions. Right now as a phys/astro major I have to take arts electives. It sucks as I'm going to finish with a degree and still not have some extra physics courses that I'd like to take as electives.

I feel more of that "becoming a well rounded individual" should come in high school. In my district they came up with this special class everyone had to take called career and personal planning (CAPP). It was VERY poorly run and ended up being useless, but it could have been great if they had taught everyone:

1. How to fill out a proper job application.
2. How to do personal income taxes.
3. Proper driving courtesy/etc
4. To not do all that stuff in those "ARGH! I hate it when people do xxxxx" threads.

I feel they should accelerate the high school program, and then add in some of those "life" courses. Many people don't/can't go to university, and it's completely optional. Let the students choose what they want to take.
