what are CAS settings? help needed - please look!

what the subject says! i'm a total newbie to this OC world, so i would like to know what these settings do? i have a p4 3.06, an asus p4g8x-d, 1gb kingmax pc2700 ram

what is the best cas setting for this setup and how can i determine this? should i flash the tweaked 1004 bios for my mobo from x86-gamer? what does it even do?

i heard that 2-2-2-5 / 2-2-2-6 is a good cas setting, but what does that even mean?

sorry for the abundance of questions, but i'd like to know!

what cas is the ram rated to? it's prolly cas 2.5 so use 2.5

the ram is rated at 2.5
