What's the deal w/ these board that advertise AM2/AM2+/AM3? DOes it mean that I can I plug in a Phenom II 955 on one of these boards w/ DDR2 ram?

I'm trying to decide between the 955 and 940. The 955 will end up costing about $90 more, I think (955 is 245, 940 was 175 last week -- so $65 there, plus at least around $25 more for the 4GB of DDR3 (vs DDR2)).

Yup. I don't like that particular description, as an AM3 socket is for DDR3 only, but you can plug an AM3 CPU (X4 955) into that mobo, as well as AM2+ CPU's (X4 940, for instance) and AM2 CPU's (Athlon 64).

It terms of value, the X4 940 @ $175 has it all over the X4 955 @ $245.
