Just curious, games I know that use Quake 3 engine:

RTCW
MOH
BF1942
Serious Sam
Jedi Knight

Is that it? BTW how much does carmack get from these games?

Battlefield 1942 doesn't use the quake 3 engine either. It uses the refractor 2 engine, the updated version of the engine that powers codename: eagle.

I belive it's a couple hundred thousand to use the engine...

It costs over a million. The Unreal engine was like 150K.
Oops. I must have been remembering quake 2 specs, I think that was like around 300k or something. But yeah, Quake 3 was out in 1999 and it still has pretty good graphics...

Uh, the unreal engine is like $300k + royalties or $500k and no royalties. When the Quake engine was basically the only one on the market it went for a million, but its not that high anymore, its more inline to the Unreal engine. id made a hell of alot of money off their engines, and they continue to do so.

I don't think it is. I could be wrong, but whenever I've read about the bf1942 engine it has always said the engine was basically all on its own.

link that says refractor is a proprietary engine

It would cool if Blizzard licensed there engine of War3 to EA, that way Generals wouldn't have sucked a$$.
Generals isn't too bad, the matches are too short and GLA just plain sucks...

id gets $150,000 each time someone licenses one of their engines. The Quake II engine was pretty popular also.

Holy piss is Epic and DE think their engine is good. I never heard that Quake I went for a mil but that's understandable since that was completely 3D and the first online game. I think Raven was one of the only companies to license it for Hexen II. Maybe I'm wrong.

Not sure about a million for the license, but the Q3 engine currently costs $250,000, and cost $500,000 when it was introduced a few years ago.
