What apps dont work right in XP

Just getting ready for the switch over next week. I hear that Zone Alarm is broken in XP for the moment. What other apps should I avoid. I have seen alot of posts with people having problems with CD burning apps in XP. Whats the skinny on that issue also. Thanks

Most non-utility apps work fine. Apps meant to tweak or fix windows like Norton Utilities won't work. As for CD burning I've had no problems with Nero, Clone CD and CDRWin. Also the new version of Zone Alarm works fine.

I run Nortons 2001 but I only Install the AV and Cleansweep and Ghost and dont bother with the utilities. Does the AV or Cleansweep have issues in XP.

That is not quite true. Almost all of the Norton 2002 programs WILL work under windows xp (Antivirus, Utilities).

I would recommend using EZ CD Creator 5.02. I am using it and it is very compatible and works nice for copying, isos, etc.

Good luck.

Thanks, Im running EZCD 4.5 that gives me no issues in Win2K and does all I really need. I hope I dont have to buy EZCD 5.0.

Thats what I meant, utilities not made for XP won't work. The new versions will.

Well I have been reading up on this over at the NTcompat forum all the way back to the RC 2 release and this is what I have gathered from them. ZA latest version is still iffy for alot of folks and still requires a manual start to get it running. Symantec System Works Pro 2001 will work if you download and install this sysevent.exe file and reboot to get it running as a service before you install System Works Pro. Only works on a clean install of System works and speeddisk still works even with the "No support for XP NTFS" error message. EZCD 4.5,I guess Im SOL and need 5.02. In the past, Adaptec use to offer upgrades to registered owners for half the price of the retail version. I guess that policy is a thing of the past. Im not sure if 5.02 is worth a 100$ plus tax and may just stick to Nero and Clone only. Im also hearing that my Asus GF 3 wont run in XP using the Asus 12.90 Win2K drivers. Asus has no updated driver on theFTTP server and Detonators just wont work if your planning to use the VIVO functions. I may just have to scrap this XP install and stick it out on Win2K for awhile longer.

I can also verify that 5.02 works...i installed the aspi drivers for xp first and the burning program works fine...

all my burning software works fine.. had to install aspi fix to get cdrwin to work

Norton antivirus 2002 had a WACKED memory leak for some reason

after running it in simple monitoring mode it had eaten up 120megs memroy so i uninstalled it

Once in a while my system will reset after playing a DVD w/ PowerDVD3 (XP updated) or sometimes w/ WinAmp 2.77. I've installed all updates. Still figuring out why it resets. Could be my Aureal SQ2500 soundcard. :disgust:

You don't really need a 3rd party burner program.......XP has a built-in burner prog that works ok. CdCreator 5.0 with updates works ok for me. I've read earlier versions have problems.....you can always try to install the early program in the "compatibility mode".....actually works.
