What application do you use for programming?

I mainly code in PHP, but I'm getting kinda tired of the options I've found for coding. I've tried Editplus (nagware), UltraEdit, Zend Studio, Xemacs, and a few others, but haven't really found anything I really really like as an environment. Anyone have any recommendations? I tried jedit, but it felt kinda bulky. I swear I saw a thread about this a while ago, but I can't find it now. 😛

For Perl I usually just Wordpad tiny changes but use the Visiual Studio 6 IDE editor for writing new Perl / HTML code since it's what I spend 90% of my day using for C++.

I keep meaning to try SlickEdit, etc. for editing non-C++ files (HTML, ASP, Perl) but don't do enough of it to be worth the effort 🙂

For just about all my coding needs, I use Crimson Editor. A beautiful, free, text editor with color coding for tons of languages.

Peace,

BBEdit. You'd never use it though because 1) it's mac only and 2) It's not free

Editplus will stop bugging you if you pay for the software like you're suppsoed to. It's only $30.

Also, when using windows, I use Editplus (paid for).

I'm trying PHPEdit right now, but if that doesn't work out too well, I'll go back to EditPlus or UltraEdit. They were the best of the options. I need to decide what program I like best (and consequently was looking for suggestions) before I (well, before my company) buys it.

Damn man, you think it might be time to upgrade? UltraEdit is on v10 now...

I've been a loyal UltraEdit user for several years now. I use Visual Studio 6 (VC++ 6, VB6) and VS.NET 2k2 and 2k3 as my primary dev environments though.
