I've been ripping soundtracks off video game CD's to listen to at my leisure. One of my games doesn't have CD audio and instead uses Apple developed files and programs. (.mov, .aiff)

I'm trying to figure out if the .arc extension has anything to do with audio (namely the music)

Thanks all!

Well, in the old Dos days .arc extention was a compression routine like zip is now. Before Pkzip, Phil Katz made Pkarc and was sued by some company named Sea because they had .arc for their compression routines. He basically improved is product released it under .zip and buried them. I figure if they sued others for using .arc then it is probably an old Sea archive file. Hope that helps.

As I recall in the days for DOS, a utility known as "PkPak" was used for the extraction of .Arc files.

ARJ archive manager for Windows will unzip this archive file type and so will a variety of other freeware/shareware programs. PkZip can be used if you are working in DOS mode.
