I just ordered an Epox 8KTA2 and now I am looking at processors. After checking out the price weekly quotes from Anandtech.com, I see that the regular Athalons cost more than the Tunderbirds. Is'nt the Thunderbirds supposed to be a better processor? I am looking to spend $100 or below and overclock the chip...any suggestions? I am looking at a Thunderbird 750mhz for $72 or a Duron 850 for $89. What should I do? Should I get a regular Athalon, like a 750mhz for $95 instead?
Thanks for any input or help!:D

Yeah, the cache on the thunderbirds runs at cpu speed. I think the original athlons cost more because their supply is probably low since I dont think they make them any more. If you're looking for guaranteed overclocking, compuwiz1 is selling Duron 600 mhz guaranteed to 1 ghz, I believe.

I dont know if that board is slot a or socket a but you cant use a duron in a slot a mobo and you cant use a claasic in a socket a mobo. Slot a t-birds are very rare.

This is a Socket A:D

I knwo Compuwiz1 has the durons, I just don't have the extra cash he wants. I am pretty confident that I can unlock the processor myself, so it's more of just what processor to get. I am using the system mainly for surfinf the web and gaming.

Agree with Classy, get a T'bird 800 for $100 and it should be no problem running at 900.

Be sure to check out the companies that are shown on pricewatch with resellerratings.com. Ordering from a company whiuch is more expensive that is more reliable than a cheaper company is reasonable to me. Usually the difference isn't too much. A few times the more reliable company was cheaper too.
