Hi all....hoping for some recommendations. I've recently purchased a NF7-S motherboard, Thermalright 900U heatsink and 512MB of Buffalo 3200 CH-5 RAM. Question is, what cpu should I purchase? I'm not sure if the RAM I've got will allow me to overclock alot or not? I've built some computers before but never really considered the overclock(not necessary with this computer but would be nice I suppose). Could someone please advise if I should go for an unlocked/locked Barton, mobile Barton, 2100+ Thoroughbred, or whatever else? I've got about $115 to spend. Thanks....

Myself and a couple of others on another forum are trying mobile Bartons. Mine is a 2400-m in a NF7 rev2. It's stable at 2200 with 1.65v, 2300 with 1.75v, and 2400 with 1.825v. I get the expected performance using 11 and 11.5 multipliers, with fsb at 211 or less, which is pretty much the limit for my RAM. Some multipliers (12 is one of them) cause performance to drop drastically. At this point, I have no idea what causes it.

One of the other guys will be putting his 2400-m in one of the new DFI Infinity boards in the next couple of days, so maybe he'll be able to show whether it's cpu/chipset or board related. I'll be getting some Level 2 Mushkin memory this week, so I'll see if it has any effect on this oddity. Right now, I'm pleased with 11*211 w/1.75v. I ordered another 2400-m today, along with a NF7-S, for a friend. If you can wait a few days, I'll be able to tell you a lot more about how consistent the quality of the cpu's is.

yeah, i heard mobile bartons are unlocked so that is the way to go, or you can buy a used unlocked desktop version.
