What ambition does an owner have for his team to win the superbowl?

For instance a team like the colts which just are outstanding year round but blow it in the playoffs. What causes the owner to not just say "aye you know what, reaching the afc championship is good enough". I would say ticket revenue, but the superbowl is always played at a different stadium then either of the teams. Do the playes market value suddenyl increase? is peyton maning worth even more now?

Just personal ambition. I cannot remember which team, but I know there is an owner in pro sports who has stated he has no ambition to make the playoffs. Even though his team is a loser he can make money because of the low payroll.

When my family first had NJ Devils season tickets it was $28 a seat for the lower levels (face value of the tickets). They have since win 3 Stanley Cups. Lower level tickets are now $90+. I don't think that is entirely due to inflation.

Clippers?

Home playoff games / higher ticket prices
More fans at games after team has success
More people interested in advertising

So, in summary, money.

There's a ton of extra merchandising,

Advertisers pay a small fortune to advertise during the superbowl... you don't think the stations just get to keep all that money, do you?

If it's not the home stadium, who do you suppose gets to keep the ticket money? I mean, suppose Britney Spears has a concert at FedEx Arena. You don't think the Redskins get to keep all the ticket money, do you?

Well...There's more to look at than inflation of goods at large. How does it compare to increases in other hockey ticket prices?

doesn't synder own the stadium. after fees and what not he gets the money and can spend them on the Redskins if he wishes. He's already wasting tons of money on the team.

anyhow, two teams that make it to superbowl get a small cut of the money, so does teh NFL itself and then ther est of the teams int he league gets a small portion. Of course smaller than the teams that played.

In the NFL, every owner gets an equal share of advertising and merchandising, about $100million a piece. After that they make their money off of ticket sales or renting out their stadiums(if they own them).

Hes "wasting" money, but makes more in profit than any other team.

To answer the OP.

Prestiage.

Wanting to be on top.

Money. The more you win, the more sellouts you have. During the 1990s Super Bowl runs with the Dallas Cowboys, they were selling out every game. Then once they stunk up the field in the late 90's attendace was down and games were being blacked out in the Dallas area, which was unheard of in the early '90s.

Pretty sure it's the Clippers. I also vaguely remember hearing the Twins mentioned for the same thing, although their payroll is a bit higher now.
