So I got my financial aid package a couple days ago...

Barely looked at it today

It came to ~$39,000/year
It was higher than someone told me, so I looked at the expenses. The charge for room was $10,100

It seemed high to me, so I googled apartments in the area

I found ones that would do that started from like... 600/month that were right near the campus
I figure another $100 a month for utilities

It's still cheaper to live off campus...

What advantages are there to living in a dorm?

here's my list of diasadvantages
room-mate
lots of people all around me
shared bathrooms

What doesn't add up here?

Despite all of the cons, I firmly believe that dorm life is something that all college students should experience, if only for a year. It exposes you to a lot of good and bad and you learn a lot. It's also good because it helps you meet people quickly and easily.

I remember dorm cost included food as well...

And power alone will eat up that $100 budget for utilities...

You can make friends in a dorm. You can get shot off-campus.

Dorm 1st year for social networking, it'll help you a lot down the road in college life and real life.

Really? When I was looking at colleges none of the rooms included a meal plan.

nope, it doesn't include meals
That's a seperate $2k

The places off campus I'm looking are right next to it

If it helps, it WIT in Boston

I guess the social networking is a good thing...
But I'm pretty reclusive. I don't really talk to people, and I hate people in my personal space (like, areas, not my "bubble")

I don't know what power is in Boston, but where I live it's about $50/mo
I live north of Boston

Also, if I have my own health insurance, do I have to get theirs?

TRUST ME

I wouldn't recommend it in his case. He already said he's reclusive. He's going to be that guy in the dorms that sits in his room all the time and plays WoW and gets mad when you make too much noise because he's studying 24/7.

Go with an off campus apartment. Doesn't sound like living on campus is going to benefit you much.

utilities is way more than $100/mo, try $200/mo if u want tv/landline/internet/heat/power

also, you need to pay for food and probably furnish your place.

pretty much, minus the WoW.
And I can tolerate the noise, assuming I have noise canceling headphones

But from my previous experiences with dorm environments, I am the reclusive kid who avoids people

Are there places that include utilities?
Like ~900 a month?

Edit: I don't need to worry about the furnishing thing
I have enough furniture to furnish about 3 apartments between my grandparents cellar and mine

Do you enjoy the feeling of slamming your hand in a door?
yes?-live in the dorm
no?- live off campus.

Dorms are a kind of babysitting place for people who cannot deal with real life and finding a place and paying bills etc.
Roommates are FTMFL!
