Playing MP3's on my HT setup would be pretty cool... But not cool enough to go through the hassle/cost of modding the Xbox.Originally posted by: Heisenberg
The main reason I would want to is to be able to play existing media files through it.
I'd put Linux on my PC, if I were so curious about Linux.Originally posted by: Walleye
i guess to put linux on it.
Not just mp3's, but video files too. Of course, once you have linux on it, you can use it for everything you'd use a standard PC for.Originally posted by: WingznutPlaying MP3's on my HT setup would be pretty cool... Ok, presuming that I don't steal movies either... Then what good is it?Originally posted by: Heisenberg

And since I already have a PC that is much better than my Xbox (as a PC)...
I guess I still don't get it.
Basically, you have a machine that you can play movies, listen to music, play games, and surf the net with all in a compact black box hooked up to your home theater system. It just provides a way to compact a lot of functions into one piece of fairly non-descript hardware.Originally posted by: Wingznut

A modchip and hd is less than $100? At any rate, I have no problems with reading discs.Originally posted by: zzzz
play games from HD directly. faster load times and your discs wont get dirty.
Also some of the units had a bad retail HD which would give a "dirty disc error" ( I think that was the cause of it) and MS wanted something like $100 for it to repair after 3 month warranty period. Cheaper to just mod it and put another HD.
I have a GC too. Hardly play it though. Outside of Resident Evil and Metroid Prime, there's nothing that turns my crank.Originally posted by: DivideBYZero
120Gb Hard Disc and HD game storage, improved load times, media storage, nose thumbing and a general feeling of having a ghetto Xbox.
I have a GameCube 😀

Played both... They were "ok", but nothing special imho.Originally posted by: DivideBYZero
If you have never played SMB, please try it. I have had many an Xbox sceptic eat their words after 30 mins with that game....

There's a lot of cool emulator projects out for the Xbox. I think there's a PSone emulator that's working okay right now. I think they ported snes9x which is working very well. I'm sure there are NES emulators, MAME emulators, Genesis, master system, etc. I think that's pretty cool.
Oh, and Xbox Media Player is very cool too.
What's the deal with this TSOP flash mod? It's free? I mod I was looking at was the Matrix mod chip, but that's because it doesn't require any soldering. But it's like $40. What's the deal with this TSOP. Ah, to hell with it. Off to Google.
