I've been trying to flash my the firmware on to my linkstation since I upgraded the HDD to a larger one. Last time I did this, it was quite the battle to get a machine to "see" the linkstation with the buffalo firmware flasher. I think I ended up having to use an XP machine to do this, unfortunately I no longer have one of those.

Cliffs:
: Linkstation is in EM mode since the new hdd is installed
: linkstation has an ip of 192.168.11.150
: i set my ip manually to 192.168.11.1 (or 192.168.11.x)
: I've Disabled UAC, firewall, virus scanner, etc......
: I've tried a x-over cable and through a switch
: the firm flasher can't see it on w7/vista
: advanced ip scanner sees it as a device with an IP of 192.168.11.150
: wtf am i doing wrong?
: i'm sure it's a firewall or some other setting but i dunno, nothing I try allows the firmware flasher to see the device.

I HATED my linkstation for this exact reason. Depending on what issue you are having in the linkstation the fix can be slightly different. (and it was slower than dirt)

Have you surfed around the support forums at Buffalo and found something that looks like your issue?

I'm pretty sure the flash program is just setting up a tftp server on your laptop to flash a new os image to the link station. Try XP as I vaguely remember having to do that with mine.

There is also a config file that you can set a debugging mode in that gives you an additional menu in the updater program, I don't remember what it is called but I will look when I get home.

I might still have some of the support pages I used when I had the linkstation stored on my new nas.

Not to be one of the guys that says get something new to fix your problem, because I hate those guys, but dump the linkstation. You will save yourself a lot of headaches.

It works great with the 1TB i tossed in there, but trying to get it to take a bigger/different drive has been a giant headache. I ended up just putting the 1tb back and decided to either try later (never) or possibly upgrade it when it just craps out.

I had mine when I lived in an apartment and I had no ups. improper shutdown would put it into em mode, which happened at least a dozen times in a year. I should be an expert at this by now.

There is a way to mount and copy an image onto a fresh drive in linux. I had to resort to that once when a file was corrupted during the tftp transfer.

What model do you have and speeds are you getting from it? Mine maxed out at 10MB/s even though it had a GbE port and supported jumbo frames. The little arm CPU in there was just way too slow.

It tops out about the same. It's a linkstation live HS-DH320GL with GBe, but it's still faster than my old Linksys NAS200. I don't need the speed, more the space so I replaced the 320 with a 1tb.
