Is there something inherently wrong with this iteration of MSI Lightning gpu? Used to be the MSI Lightning was MSI's top line gpu, but now is actually priced, after MIR, $80 below MSI's Gaming version of the same gpu.

It's got the same amt. of memory, higher clock speeds....so what gives? o_O

Seems more like a way to not have their high-end sales cannibalized by the GTX 970.

Competition is good. Now you can get insane performance for $320, with an excellent cooler & beefy PCB to boot. o_O

I mean just take a look at the recent TPU charts including newer games. A Lightning is faster than the Ref R290X (doesn't throttle) and decent OC headroom with good OC scaling.

You can buy a pair of R290X Lightning for slightly more than a 980. :O

Vs an Asus 970 stryx or msi 970 gaming I'm not sure I'd take the Lightning at $320. Thoughts are on that matchup.

The Lightning is the best 290x IMO.

I don't agree. the noise is higher than with tri-x and vapor-x. the best R9 290X is the vapor-x
