I have a t-bird 1.3 with a volcano 5 heatsink. My temp w/ sandra showed 52-53c. All I had was the crappy little pack of white goo that came with my heatsink, so I bought some artic silver and redid it. I ran at 38c but within a week it was back up to 53c. I redid it again and as I type this, I'm at 56.4c. All temps are with no-load. Help!

Are you sure you cleaned the heatsink/CPU with isopropyl alcohol before putting the AS on? IF so, is the CPU properly seated on the motherboard, have you put a very thin layer of AS (as thick as a paper sheet, you can see the cpu through it...) and have you moved the heatsink when installing it thus wiping some areas of the CPU?

I really suggest you reapply it and see if it works... it should

Thanks, I'll give it another shot. I cleaned both surfaces. I use alcohol prep pads, they're nice and lint-free. I put it on the cpu a little heavier than you suggested.

High % isopropyl alcohol is a better way to go, unless your alcohol prep pads are also high purity.

I appreciate all the help! I put on a thinner coat of as3 and cleaned up some residue from a previous try that I'd missed. Also discovered some dust in my HS and cleaned that out. Am running @ 43.8c!! Thanks again.
