What am I doing wrong or not doing in Exchange2K? Cannot create mailbox for users...

The only person that has a mailbox is the default built-in administrator account. Whenever I go and create a user account, it doesn't give me the option or ask me if I wish to create a mail-enabled or mailbox-enabled attachment for the user?

I went thru the usual /forestprep and /domainprep before installing exchange2k.

Thx.

Hmmm...

Are you managing the users from the same machine as you installed Exchange on? When you do a properties of the user does it have 3 extra exchange tabs in the user?

You did the right things. /Forestprep /domainprep. Then install away, it is very straight forward.

Yes to the question, and no I don't see the extra exchange tabs when I go into the users' properties. They should be there, but they're not. Just running Windows 2000 Server with the usual DNS, TS, IIS services. Nothing fancy.

I installed exchange previously, and on one occasion it worked just fine with all the tabs and the mailbox capabilities. Not sure why its like this now.
I've even tried doing a clean format, install clean Windows 2000 Server, AD, then Exchange2k. Same thing.

Well, its only a home lab, and yes its only one server that I have right now housing all the above services. Whether SP2 is installed or not is irrelevant to my problem I believe, its a feature that should be there regardless.

Well I'm at a loss. Usually when you can't see the tabs the Exchange Management part isn't installed. But I assume you installed it as it is installed through a default installation.

At work I installed the adminpak on my 2k workstation to manage the domain. This by itself won't show the Exchange tabs of the user. But when thr Exchange Management component was installed on my computer the tabs appeared.

Sounds like a format reinstall.

Double checked, Exchange Management is already installed. Doesn't hurt to try and reinstall I guess. Yes, default basic install, nothing fancy.
I'm at a loss myself. The same procedure time and time again, but one time it did install and function correctly.

One question about exchange relaying. Who should be able to relay? My server only?

strangely enough, on my test server, which has the same problem, I went ahead and reinstalled Exchange over the existing one, and voila!! I see the exchange tabs and creating new users now I get the correct message prompting me if I want to create a mailbox for them :)

Wierd. Thx for helping, btw, appreciate it.

One last question.

Is there a way I can backup or export emails belonging to a certain user? I have an email box with emails in it on the other test server, and want to do the same reinstall over the existing Exchange, so I want to make sure I don't lose those emails when I do the reinstall.

PS: sorry for the bad engrish :)

I've successfully done the same thing to my main server, and all seems well now with Exchange. Wierd thing that happened to this one though is after the initial reboot I can't get into GPO's and manage them, and had to reseize my operation master roles. Wierd. But its all good now.

BTW, I didn't lose any of my emails and my exchange configs still remained the same.

Thx.
