I've had this Minolta S414 for a while now and i thought i was finally getting the hang of it. Here i am trying to take pictures of the family @ christmas all the lights are on doors are open plenty of light and i take pictures and they are black as night. I manually turn flash on and it wont flash and pictures are still dark.

I guess i am too much of a noob to get this POS camera to work :\

Dir

It would appear my flash is broken 🙁

Or have you tried reading the manual?

Yea i read the manual when i first got it. learned all the neat little modes tested em out.

I been working out the kinks as i go along and i was finally taking consistently decent to good pictures and now this and i been messing with it for a while now and i cannot for the life of me get it to work right now.

It won't even flash when i have it on manual flash.

Your camera is lonely. Give her a feel.

I tried, she rejected me.

Change your thread title.

Get over it.

I'm afraid you'll have plenty of time to get over it.

Your flash is not working

Either the flash is broken, or you have it set to a no flash mode.

Try resetting the camera.

It is set to flash

try taking your finger away from the flashbulb.

Sadly this could be the problem, lol.

* 2x checked, i wasnt holding my finger in front of the flash or if i was it isnt the problem cause its still doing it.

what settind do you have the flash on??

I am RTFM for you and it looks like there are 5 different flash modes. I wouldnt leave it on auto with all that backlight, try setting it to 400 and see what happens

Thanks, I tried auto/normal flash/red eye/ normal+red eye none of them worked.

I tried putting the camera in portrait/landscape/night/macro/everything mode and the flash still won't work. I'm guessing that it is unfortunately broken 🙁

Bought it new from an AT member here not that long ago.

yeah...sounds like you are screwed unless you have a couple of extra flood lights laying around

It looks like you are not allowing the camera time to get the autofocus right so the proper settings can be determined. Cameras are not really "point and shoot" like the manufacturers would lead you to believe.

Try the following:

1) Pick a subject inside your house to take a picture of.
2) Aim the camera at the subject and frame the subject with the viewfinder or the LCD.
3) Apply pressure to the button which you press to take pictures -- but, be very careful. Only press it down halfway or so. This will allow the camera to autofocus, etc.
4) Once you've gotten an acknowledgement from the camera (e.g. green light by viewfinder turns on) -- press the button down all the way to take the picture.

Let me know how this works out for you.

Unfortunately that is not the problem 🙁

Thanks for the advice though.
