What am I allergic to?

Last year I discovered that I am Gluten Intolerant (an ingredient in bread, pasta, etc.). I can have it every 4 days or so without problems. However there is still something that bugs me, something found in certain chocolate products. For example, chocolate milk (Nesquik, Yoohoo, etc.) and Nestle Toll House cookie dough really bother me. Symptoms include:

Intense abdominal pain
Horrible-smelling gas
Acid reflux

Tums helps out somewhat, especially with the acid. The length depends on what I eat, like with the cookies it's just a few hours but if I drink an entire bottle of chocolate milk, I could be suffering all night. I think that it is some kind of preservative or perhaps a certain kind of chocolate, because not all chocolate bothers me. I'm hoping someone can ID the thing that is bothering me. I just get rotten sick from eating or drinking certain chocolate products - it's not everything, like my mother-in-law's homemade chocolates don't bother me a bit, which leads me to think that maybe it's a preservative. Here are a couple ingredient lists:

Yoo-Hoo:
water, dairy whey, high fructose corn syrup and/or sugar, non-fat milk, corn syrup solids, cocoa (processed wtih potassium carbonate), soybean oil (partially hydrogenated), sodium caseinate (protein source), natural and artificial flavor, vanillin (an artificial flavor), salt, tricalcium phosphate, dipotassium phosphate, xanthum gum, guar gum, carrageenan, mono-and diglycerides, soy lechitin, calcium ascorbate (vitamin C), vitamin A palmiate, niacinamide (vitamin B3), vitamin D3, riboflavoin (vitamin B2), natural chocolate flavor
Nestle Toll House cookie dough:
NESTLE TOLL HOUSE MORSELS (SEMI-SWEET CHOCOLATE [SUGAR, CHOCOLATE, COCOA BUTTER, MILKFAT, SOY LECITHIN, VANILLIN - AN ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, NATURAL FLAVOR]), BLEACHED ENRICHED FLOUR (WHEAT FLOUR, NIACIN, REDUCED IRON, THIAMIN MONONITRATE, RIBOFLAVIN, FOLIC ACID), SUGAR, MARGARINE (PALM OIL, WATER, SUNFLOWER OIL, HYDROGENATED COTTONSEED OIL, SALT, VEGETABLE MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES, SOY LECITHIN, SODIUM BENZOATE, CITRIC ACID, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, BETA CAROTENE COLOR, VITAMIN A PALMITATE ADDED), WATER, CORN SYRUP SOLIDS, MOLASSES, EGGS, EGG YOLKS, BAKING SODA, SALT, CORNSTARCH, SODIUM ALUMINUM PHOSPHATE, VANILLA EXTRACT, VANILLIN - AN ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR

Any ideas?

That's the thing - I can have any dairy products, no problem. I switched to Rice milk then Soy Milk for about a year then switched back, not really any difference.

You sure you aren't lactose intolerant??

It's kinda tough cuz your symptoms are vague and they dont really describe an allergic reaction...but more just your body not liking or digesting something in your food....

Yeah I actually did a full-on prick test and the results came back as not allergic to anything, yet I am VERY gluten-intolerant. Strange huh. I want to find out what this other thing my body is rejecting so that I can avoid it 100%. Sometimes I'll just eat stuff and get massively sick like this. I'm going to be up all night because I ate those stupid cookies after dinner :|

Well the cookies it's because they have wheat flour which probably has a sh!t ton of gluten...so there you go on that one...

And with the chocolate milk...it's probably the corn syrup solids...corn syrup is usually made from corn starch which...again probably has gluten...

EDIT: check that...corn starch usually doesnt contain gluten...my bad

EDIT x2: damnit I'm stumped...

From Wikipedia: Many foods will contain gluten, but not be indicated on the ingredients, because they are not in the formulation of the product, but in the preparation of it. One example of this is the dusting of the conveyor belts in the production facilities to prevent the foods from sticking during processing. The food itself might not contain gluten, but there is gluten in the ingested product.

Could that be the problem?

I remember a member talking about this diet a little while ago....doesnt sound like it if your not allergic to milk....but probably testing lactose there.

Well, Gluten gives me a whole different set of problems - namely headaches, stomach pain, and tiredness. The milk chocolate, especially liquid chocolate, makes me feel like I'm going to die.

recurring abdominal bloating and pain
chronic diarrhea
constipation
pale, foul-smelling, or fatty stool

infertility, recurrent miscarriage

Well I read some more into lactose intolerance and I do seem like a good candidate - constant sinus congestion, dark circles under eyes, etc. Says it takes about 3 weeks to really, truly clear things up. I'll give it a shot!

I have been dealing with bad reflux for a couple of months and it's extremely exacerbated by acidic foods and hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Vegetable oil huh? If I do the once-every-4-days thing I can handle orange juice and whatnot. Any sooner than that and I'm tossing Tums left and right.

I can eat regular oil in limited amounts, and normal butter is fine it's actually HYDROGENATED oil that sets me off, if I have just one piece of cheap chocolate I'll feel it in an hour.

Interesting, haven't tried any pre-meal meds before. Acid reflux is kind of an on-off thing for me, not a huge concern but what the heck, I'll give it a shot. Thanks.
