what ALTERNATIVE bass line is your favorite?

Weezer - Only In Dreams

One of my favorite songs ever.

Otherwise any Rage Against the Machine song from their first album. That album's all about the bass.

[EDIT] Jeez Lily, what are you spying on me? First Whose Line and now Rage. I'm not sure if you've got really good taste or are just reading my mind. Maybe next time, I'll just think really hard about what I would post and see if it appears ;-)[/EDIT]

Wow - I love a lot of bass lines in alternative... I really like to play along with Dave Matthews Band, the Pumpkins (The World is a Vampire...)...

Anyone else play bass?

I play bass, my current faves would be:

cake's version of I will survive, or
Dave Matthews Band - The Best Of What's Around

Hard to say what's alternative these days, Tool really isn't but 46 & 2 has one of the coolest basslines ever.

Some already noted, I am not a big SP fan, but the bass line in Geek USA is indeed awesome. Also, Soul to Squeeze from Red Hot Chili Peppers is another great one.

Audi - to pick up the bass line if its burried a bit I can play it through my 5.1 reciever and turn off all but the sub! 😀

Not perfect, but it helps pick it up.

Hmmm...

Cake, "The Distance"
RHCP, "Under the Bridge"
Nirvana, "Lithium"
lots of stuff from STP: "Lady Picture Show", "Wicked Garden", "Still Remains", "Silvergun Superman", "Plush"

On the weird side: Primus, "Jerry Was a Racecar Driver", "DMV"

Well, yeah - but I only do that to pick up the bass line, then I play the song normally and jam along.

But sometimes I do just sit and play the bass of an entire song! Wierd, eh?

Fugazi - "Waiting Room"
RATM - "Testify", "Killing In The Name Of"
Duran Duran - "Rio" (Amazing stuff, esp. the solo)
Limp Durst - "Rearranged"
Primus - "Tommy The Cat"
RHCP - "Higher Love", lots more, esp. slower tunes.

Anyone else notice that the LEAST important member of the Dave Matthews Band is DAVE?!? Without his crew, he'd be a starving busker.
