for a family member...

I come to the AT Video experts for your knowledge! Currently has a Intel 1.6a northwood running stable at 2.5 with a GF 4200AGP, 1 gig o ram...wants to pick up a card that can run some of today's games at modest details...COD2, Doom3, Farcry, etc.

Recommendations? ATI 9800 Pro? or not?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks,

JC

I'll second that.
Just got mine today and upgraded from an ancient Radeon 7000 and the difference is unbelievable.

You'd be surprised. Assuming you dont run games in 16x12, the 6600gt can actually do a decent amount of AA/AF and still run well. Of course, you wont get it maxed out, but its better than nothing if you prefer to use it.
