Just wondering everyone's ideas on this because of a debate a friend and I had tonight. Here are my top picks. By Affordable I mean You can pick it up used under 35k.

the 1st gen CTS was not much for me.

I did love the M35/45 of the 06+ era

aside from that haven't been in much other then the nissan/infiniti lineup.

Here's a 2009 SL65 AMG for $275. IIRC, those where pretty luxurious.
Not sure about the engine and body mods to this one, though. I think I'd wait for exdeath's automobile expertise to chime in on the pros/cons of that engine layout.

FWD is it's only failure IMO

You could probably pick up an IS350, or GS300 etc for that price point as well..

2007+ G35 which I drive among so many more.

Really the used luxury performance market is chock full of fantastic cars. Sure some of them may be high maintenance like a stunning trophy wife but when things get curvy its worth it on both accounts.

Under 35k luxury GTs low 30s

Maserati QP
Tons of blown mercs
tons of BMWs like E39 M5s or even a higher mileage E60s.
XJ-Rs
tons of Audis
Boxsters
etc.

Of the ones you have listed, i would say the Merc. It isn't the car I would choose, but it has the most luxurious feel of the bunch. It is built like a tank and feels that way. Everything is smooth about the car. It is far from being super "dynamic", but you feel like you are being pampered driving it around or being driven around in it.

Of the cars you have listed, the one I would most likely buy is a CTS-V wagon/manual....but I don't think it "screams luxury" like the E350.

+3

I would put that one on the list for entro-lux.
We loved our '08 TL-S (black/black). It was sexy. The new ones look like Fido's ass.

G37 is pretty meh when it comes to luxury, I'd put it closer to acura than BMW/MBenz

Definitely the Audi 8 series, Merc S Class, or BMW 7 series for luxobarge.

M5s and M6s with the 500hp V10 are popping into the $35k and less range here and there, that would probably get my vote as the most interesting combo of luxury/performance in the range. You'd have to afford to actually own one of those things though, the insane costs for anything major are extreme, and even regular stuff like tires and brakes are dramatically higher than stuff like Camry/Accord/328/A4/etc.

Dramatic isn't even the word. You could buy a whole Kia for what some things on an M5/M6 could potentially cost. I love the sound of that V10...but I don't think I could live with spending that much on maintaining a car.

The E-350 leaves me speechless every time, that thing is a work of art...

 My Mother-In-Law has a 2010 E350 Sedan and I've driven it a few times. It is a fantastic car IMO. Much more luxury and class than any Acura, Ford, or Hyundai.
