what advantage does a hub have over a swicth? yes you read that right :)

When you want to do IDS or packet analysis, a hub is needed if your switch doesn't support SPAN.
 
I don't think it's an advantage (I'm pretty sure they both do it) but using a hub is a good way to boost signal over long distances.

A hub and switch have the same distance limitations.

the only advantage a hub would have is it has almost zero latency. A switch will store the entire frame before placing it on the egress port. But practically this has no impact.
