someone enlighten me....what's up with the whole world going crazy about iPods ?

Why not one of the countless other, cheaper mp3 players ?

What does an ipod have what other players dont have ?

It's more trendy andthe navigation is good. Although not necessarily more reliable.

The "Keep it simple" idea comes into play quite well.

The abundance of support for the product adds to it.

easiest to use. I got one about 18 months ago when they were, "cool." Now everyone has one, and it just doesn't stand out. No point for me to upgrade since its so easy to use and serves its purpose.

Actually i think they are a bit harder to use than the cheapers ones, and many many many other mp3 players have better navigation. And their is of course the $99 battery fee every 6months.

I use my ipod every day for 3-5 hours (more on weekends) and it still hasn't died. Still get a good 8 hours out of the battery. Also, it has survived MANY drops while working out.

Name three mp3 players that are better in navigation than the iPod.

The warranty will last you a year. (superb warranty I might add, can creative match apple's support?)

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I won't touch a player that can't playback tracks without a gap or glitch in between. if it can't do that, it just plain sucks at playing music, which is what these gizmos are supposed to do. So, to me: Ipod sucks, creative sucks, dell sucks, etc. I'll take the rio karma, possible reliability issues and all, because it's the only option. the kick-ass interface is a nice bonus too.

A hot ASU girl fondled my ipod while I was flying from Chicago to Phoenix.

I've loved the iPod since it's release! I still have a Gen1 iPod that gets used on a daily basis...that will probably begin to collect dust now that I have the U2 Edition though... I couldn't live w/o it!

What players have better navigation? The touch wheel is so intuitive that you don't need lighted buttons to see what you're doing. IMO it is the most complete Mp3 player on the market. That being said I have not used the latest from Iriver which I've heard is very good.

im one of the most tech savy people i know and i found the ipod impossiable to use when i first used one, the wheel is pretty damn annoying to use and definitily not intuitive, and neither is the interface, the ever expanding menu is fvcking annoying as gell

to each their own i guess. When I first picked up an Ipod (1st gen) I used it was so simple to use I was amazed. When I finally bought mine (4th Gen), I used it immediately and only consulted the manual once, to understand what On-The-Go playlists were. As I said, I never have used Rio products, so I can't comment, but I  Ipod navigation.

Nothing. They're popular in the same way (and to the same age group / intelligence level) that "typin rly kewl lyke dis, u no wut i meen?" and pop music are popular.

I bought myself a Zen Micro by Creative Labs for Christmas and I love it!

I like it better than my friend's mini Ipod. IMO, the Zen Micro is easier to navigate with and definitely has more features.

I won't say that Ipods suck but they are overpriced for their lack of features and, depending on why you're buying an mp3 player, there are probably many other players out there that may suit your needs better.
