What about Windows Server 2005/2008?

Does anyone use Microsoft Windows Server as an operating system for a daily use computer? Can it run most regular Windows software? Is it similar in interface as Windows XP? Is there any reason why one would not want to do this?

I read an article that shows how to turn Server 2008 into a workstation operating system... but I don't see a real reason for it..
