What about the Radeon 9000 vs. The GeForce3 Ti200?

Shouldn't we be curious about the performance of these two cards head to head? Since the GeForce3 Ti200 can pretty much match or slightly outperform the GF4MX460, and it has DX8.1 compatability, why all the talk about comparing the 9000 against the GF4MX cards?

Let's see a battle of the DX8.1 budget cards! Does a Radeon 9000 selling at $120 beat the GF3Ti200 selling at $85 in price/performance? Or against a 8500LE that sells for $90? That would be comparing apples with apples!

Well to be entirely accurate it would be the battle of the DX8.0 cards, as the GF3 isnt DX8.1 compliant. Not that anyone need be at all concerned witht he difference between DX8.0 and 8.1.

In any case, it's been pretty much widely shown by now that the 8500LE is superior in virtually every respect compared to the Ti200.

I believe that the 9000 series would perform on par with a Geforce 3 Ti 200, however the Ti 200 is to my belief going the way of the dinosaur in that its being replaced by the Geforce 4 Ti 4200 as Nvidia's mid-level gfx card.

The GeForce 3 line is to be phased out as nVidia has it's GeForce 4 line to fill in. Ti for performance, MX for budget. It isn't a good idea to hold onto old products for support, even if it makes sense. nVidia's big bucks come from their budget cards, not their flagships, that is the way it is for just about everyone, including ATI. That is why ATI's Radeon 9000 series targets the GeForce 4 MX line. The only reason we see prices for the Ti 200 so low is because vendors want to get rid of their stock just to clear space for new products.
