I am going to build an AMD system shortly and I have been trying to decide on a mobo. I believe I am going to go with the AMD 761 Chipset depending on future support for cpus (Athlon 4)

Is the Epox 8K7A a good mobo for stabilty and speed plus future support?

I am not interested in Raid at this poing but I am thinking I will use onboard sound considering I have a Diamond Mx200 now with no Windows 2000 drivers much less XP ones. How is the onboard sound (AC97 Digital Audio (by VT82C686B) and does it support 4 speakers?

Thanks

Great motherboard for stability and speed for a great price. It uses the AMD760 northbridge so you'll know you'll be getting kick ass DDR performance. I've heard nothing but good reviews for this board. Most onboard audio suck with the exception of the KK266's onboard sound. I would recommend spending 30 bucks on a new sound card.

No it doesn't support four speakers with the onboard sound. A new sound card might be a good idea.

i definitely recommend the epox 8k7a, its very stable and good for overclocking
however, i also think you should get a new sound card (if you dont want to spend a lot of money, the sound blaster live! value is still a good card, and pretty cheap i think)

The epox is great, I love mine so far, had it for a few days but it is most certainly a nice board, no problems yet, and I don't think I will have any. I wouldn't not get it becaue of the onboard sound, just buy a nice sblive or something like that for around 40 bucks.

"What about future support for the A4 "

I am using an Athlon 4 on my 8K7A right now and it works flawlessly. So yes, it has future support for the A4 (not the car ;) ). :)

I'm not doubting you Insane but How do you have an Athlon 4 (Palomino)?

Are you running an Athlon MP?
