What about my 6800GT?

I am planning to build a Core 2 Duo system soon. I plan to retain my two existing PATA hard disks and my 6800GT until directx 10 video cards come out (at which time, I will get a PCI-E directx card). Can someone please point me to any mobo options I might have? Ideally I'd like to spend around $100 or so on my mobo. I am NOT a overclocker so overclocking capabilities dont matter to me terribly.

Thanks for any tips !

Cool. Can this board run DDR (as against DDR2) while running a Conroe CPU? I have 2 GB of DDR-400 which I would like to continue to use without switching to DDR2?

Thanks for any help.

That board supports 2GB of either DDR or DDR2 (MAX 2GB). Their is no PCI-E slot for a new directx10 card (and no boards I know of support AGP and PCI-E on an Intel platform), its overclockability is limited, and Core 2 Duo (conroe) support isn't listed on newegg (therotically it should be possible, but that VIA chipset might have limitations).

thanks , customcoms. Anandtech reviewed this ASRock board for Conroe recently and hence my questions.

That board has a 16x PCI-E slot for a video card and an AGP slot. Also, if it's the ASrock board I know of it supports Core2Duo.

What's your rush? What processor and motherboard do you currently have?

If you save all your upgrades until DirectX 10 cards are out, you'll also probably get a better deal on the processor at that time, and you'll have more motherboards to choose from.

i agree with crimson117. you might as well wait until you can upgrade everything at once. if you upgrade the cpu and get the asrock mobo, you're gonna severely limit its potential by using slow memory and a slow video card. via chipsets suck too fyi. if you can get by until a month or 2 from now, then i'd wait for the dx10 card you want to come out. by then core 2s, mobos and memory will all be cheaper and you'll have better selection.

thanks crimson and gobucks. I currently have the A 64 3000+ , MSI k8neo-fis2r mobo, 2 GB of DDR-400, AGP 6800GT. I think I will wait as you suggested until new directx 10 cards come out. My only concern would be that if I try and sell my current cpu/mobo/graphics card, I will not get much for them.
