what a way to end the day...got my car broken into!

It's raining outside and saw that my wife's and my backpacks, her wallet, a change tray (with Canadian coins), my favorite cologne (Aqua Di Gio), and $200 in assorted denominations. They trashed the stuff inside looking for more stuff and left a pair of pliers on the front passenger seat.

The sherriff came, looked around the car, took the pliers, and filed a report. He also wanted us to submit the list of CC#s in her wallet so they can keep an eye out for them. I already cancelled the CCs and planning to put a fraud alert with the credit bureaus. Luckily, I took out the tax return forms out of my backpack this morning 🙂

Three other cars were broken into, with varying items missing. First, I got a bike stolen, now this! :|

Priest organizes a meeting then all of a sudden several cars are broken into at the exact same time? Yeah, I think I know what's going on here...

dquan, you know this is sacramento, crime capital..

well things will get better, it cycles. if some idiot breaks into my car i am going to seriously chop their hands off.

You're fortunate that someone bothered to show up. The police in the area told me that no one will be coming out for my car break-in because it wasn't a violent crime. I also reported that a knife was left behind, and I got a call from a police officer about a week later, and the conversation went like this:

Me: "A knife was left behind, and I put it in a plastic bag. I tried my best to not touch the knife directly."
Officer: "Hold the blade up to light and see if you see any fingerprints."
Me: "..... I don't see any fingerprints on the blade."
Officer: "Ok, then there's no useable print on the blade"(or something like that, I don't remember the exact words)
Me: "Ok."

I truncated most of the conversation, and the officer was polite/seemingly symapthetic, but man... I couldn't help but think that these guys are useless. I understand that the cost of investigation required would be higher than the value of the equipment stolen from my car, but man... I liked my car stereo.

I had my car broken into just before christmas. The window was smashed out and it rained in my car all night. The cost of replacing my stereo did not come close to the headache of replacing my window/missing dash pieces.

I was told that I could bring my car to the police station and leave it for a couple of days so they could check for fingerprints. Realizing that was useless, I didn't take my car in and may not even file a report next time my car gets broken into.

church lot or where ?

ya, it's in the church lot. The funny thing is that the meeting is for a class on managing finances. At one point during the class, a 19-20yr old black guy came in asking to use the phone, saying that "he was lost". He probably served as a lookout.

I've been going to this church for over 10yrs with no incidents, so this is a surprise.
