What a waste of time....

Just got back from the job interview

Get there, do some questions (what is this + this, what word means the same as this, some basic computer questions (the kind that I could do in my sleep
rolleye.gif
), wait around for 55 minutes to go into the interview.

Go in to the room where they're interviewing...walk out 2 mins later!

I get asked 2 questions: What aspect of computers interests you the most, and why did you move/have you thought of going into London?

Then, the guys says "unfortunately i don't have any positions to offer you, we are looking for people to possibly move into supervisor positions, and you don't seem to have the personality that could do that. We are looking for people that can take control and speak up...." (by this time i'd thought huh??)

WTF!?!!!1!?

2 questions, and you know my personality? HELLLLOOOOO!!!??!!!1!!111!

Did you even *call* my previous employer? They would have told them idiots that I was always "speaking up", always telling people my opinions, even when they weren't wanted, people used to ask me questions, I used to say if i thought something was wrong!!

I think my mum summed it up well: "Well if that's their attitude, then that's not the company you want to work for"

That was a perfectly good waste of 3hrs of my time (including travelling there, and getting caught in traffic), and about £5 worth of petrol, both of which I could have put to better use doing my in-car MP3 computer, which is what i'm going to go do now! (Edit: Off to go buy some push buttons and a USB cable, and do something worthwhile with my time 🙂)

Bummer Confused. 🙁

Sounds similar to the one and only interview I've had. But the guy that interviewed me didn't even have the decency to be upfront, mumbled some BS and left me sitting there. he had the worst handshake I've run into in a long time, not even a grasp, a wet noodle has a better handshake, plus the way he vaguely blew me off at the end, so I wouldn't have liked working for him.

Ah well, keep on looking. As they say, throw enough mud on the wall, some of it's bound to stick eventually. 🙂

ditto.

Sounds like they had already filled the post mate, and were just going through the motions..
It happens a lot, my company does it, they have filled the post internally, but for legal reasons have to advertise it. Good to see you are taking it the right way and not letting it knock your confidence.
I once had an appraisal where my boss told me I would never be a manager, so I went on a managerial course, the rest of the class chose me to lead the project at the end of the course, afterwards the instructor said it was the best project they had ever had.......
I'm still a techy though, enjoy it more, get as much or more money, and perhaps more importantly respect.... Those who can, do, those who can't, manage....

🙂

Yeh, sounds like they had already filled the post. He said that the reason I had been kept waiting, is because the person they were interviewing previously had some extra/extended tests to do, which caused the interview to be late. My guess that it was either filled internally, or they had already decided to give it to the person before me, so therefore just fobbed me off.

However I'm not letting this get me down, at the moment I'm looking on it as extra time to do my in-car MP3 computer, and also my server case mod, however just without the money part! 🙂

Off out to go find a cheap USB cable, and some push button switches 🙂

Your mom is a smart lady.

My brother is looking for a job also now that Gateway let him go after the holiday season. He has an interview today at this place.

That's really bad! 🙁 I don't know what I've done there if they did that to me (with words ofcourse..)
Indeed, your mom just hit the nail on the head.. You do not want to work at such a company..
Hope you'll succeed with the next try! 🙂
Good luck with your mp3 project as well! 😉

Well I would follow through with my promise but it seems like you wouldn't want to work for that comany anyways. 😉

^ what he said. Good luck to all the job-seekers... keep at it! 🙂

Try not to look at it as a total waste of time. Maybe consider it an experience in interviewing. A bad one maybe but at least you got a bad one out of the way so odds are you'll have a better experience next time. 🙂

I agree with others though. Sounds like they weren't really interested in the first place and should've been up front with you but that's their fault, not yours.

Bummer 🙁

So you didn't take control of the situation? The interviewer was aware that it was an interview right? The interviewer is supposed to cunduct those. Generaly if the interviewee stands up and says, "I am taking control of this interview! Your questions mean nothing! Gimme a job before your company crumbles into nothing!". they are escorted out by security 😛

Sounds like a great company to be working for anyway. I would rather work at McDonalds. 🙂

... that blows dude but then i know where you coming from. most jobs i've went in for "waste of time" was no more then a few stupid "?" that sometimes was not even about the job i was there to get! then in the end they tell you that they did not needed ppl at the time and they would call you back if needed... then 2 years goes by and you here the shop is gone out of bussy cause of the crapy computers and services they done...

I think I sent about 12 letters to the company I now work for before they caved in and gave me a interview .. they weren't even hiring at the time .. and I am now their longest serving employee ..

Sometimes you find a job in the most unexpected of places ... you should never give up the search even if it seems hopeless at times .. find a company you want to work for and go after them and never take no for an answer ..

Hope you find a job soon 🙂

I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe you can get some financial backing from your parents and set up a small computer shop in your house. Build great no bs computers for a great price. I really want to do something like this but the money just isnt there.

Trust me you don't want to do that. 😉

Reason being is warrenties and moron customers. You will get calls from people becuase they can't open their e-mail. Its just more work than its worth. 😛

But a computer repair buisness on the other hand works great. I am going set one up fairly soon becuase I am tired of the only local shop charing tons of cash to work on computers. And all the people I know get ripped off. They would bring them to me but the don't want to impose. But they told me if I had a shop of sorts setup they would... The only problem is taxes. I have to pay twice the SS on all of the money I make...

Very true. Give them a 60m warrenty and when they come back two years later and want you to fix it point out the micro print that states 60 minuets.😛 If I had an abundance of family and friends who needed computers though it wouldnt be too bad.

Sorry to hear about the horrible interview Confused. HR people are usually stuck in the positions they are in because they aren't good for much of anything, but haven't managed to warrant a firing 😉.

Of course, after that last statement, its a little tougher for me to get onto ColinP for his little comment about managers 😛. Lol, I can still do, I swear! 😉
