When he won some cheesy entertainment award last weekend, he quoted Martin Luther King: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere".

What an affront to Dr. King.

Yeah, cause anytime someone quotes a black speaker, they're playing the race card.

What an affront to Dr. King.
Actually that's honoring him by showing him the respect of quoting his great words as it applies to some perceived injustice. Granted that perception might be his and his alone...

OMG, kermalou just played the race card. Quoting Rodney King is an obvious indication that he's racist. :Q

I wouldn't call that "playing the race card." I do believe that the way his defense has dug into the local police force and found out that in 1996 the department there made a settlement to a black man they pulled over for "suspected drug trafficing". Apparently the police searched his entire car, dumped out his luggage, and when they found nothing, just left without helping put every thing back. the towns current sheriff, was working under the sheriff that helped bring about this lawsuit, and they are making a big stink about how the current sheriff had a large part in the decision making process of the department.

Ummm, no, I don't think that anytime someone quotes a black "speaker", they're playing the race card. :disgust:

How many times do you think that Kobe Bryant quoted Dr. Martin Luther King prior to this?

If this was the first time, as I suspect it was, why did he choose this particular moment?

And what injustice has Mr. Bryant suffered, that would cause him to equate his plight with the civil rights movement?

The use of this quote is an affront to all of those who have truly suffered injustice.

Kobe Bryant played the race card and I hope it backfires on him.

is it true that the town folks (or villagers) had a parade for the "victim" when she returned from her grandmother's crib?

Rip, i see you are getting ripped for your comments. Well, I won't rip you, I think you are *probably* right. Evoking the memory of Dr. King I think does send powerful messages to blacks and whites. I don't think it's a coincidence, and I don't think it was out of sheer respect for Dr. King.

I'm just cynical these days about race relations in our country. It's as easy for me to believe a black man would use the race card as it is for a black man to believe in racism.

What a grossly misinterpreted quotation! That is, you misinterpreted Kobe, retard. Like all the others are asking, how the hell did you get "I'm only being charged because I'm black" from the above?

Thanks for the support.

In my book, at the very least Bryant is an adulterous dirt bag who happens to be good at bouncing a ball and putting it into a round hole.

It's pathetic that he would evoke the memory of a great humanitarian like Martin Luther King in his lame attempt to deflect blame from himself by suggesting that he's a victim of racial injustice.

If this isn't playing the race card. What is?

He is not saying that its a black vs. white issue, he's saying that he is a victim of injustice!

He needs to share that crack he must be smoking. So far there has been no injustice.

Celebrities being taken advantaged of because they have a lot of money perhaps? According to your quote, there's nothing about race involved. Unless there's more to what he said, you're just extrapolating nonsense. If I were to do the same, I would say that you think all black people try to use racism as an excuse for everything.

You don't think that Bryant quoting a civil rights leader on injustice has racial overtones in light of the allegations against him?
