This is an article about British journalist Peter Hounam.

He got the interview with Mordechai Vanunu, the Israeli technician whose disclosures made clear to the world that Israel has nuclear weapons.

Hounam eventually was kidnapped by Mossad & Shin Bet and held against his will for a while. There was no charge.

It wouldn't be too big a leap to speculate that they wanted to throw a scare into him. Intimidate him. Something along those lines.

"How I escaped Mossad's clutches
Israel’s secret intelligence service is ruthless but reckless because it doesn’t care about international opinion, says Peter Hounam, who was imprisoned by them.

"If Mossad was behind the murder of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh in a Dubai hotel last month it should shock nobody. From my experience of the Israeli intelligence agencies, it is not their ruthlessness that is so remarkable but their disdain for international public opinion and tendency to take short cuts.

Hit teams dispatched by the spymasters of Tel Aviv have been surprisingly clumsy in exercising their licence to kidnap or kill around the world. Many operations have been botched, causing huge embarrassment to friendly countries.

My experience of them happened six years ago after I had gone to Israel on behalf of the BBC and The Sunday Times. The aim was to get the first interview with nuclear whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu on his release after 18 years in jail, 11 of them spent in solitary confinement. I ended up being accused of nuclear espionage myself.

In 1986, I had exposed Israel’s nuclear weapons programme based on Vanunu’s eyewitness testimony of his country’s underground nuclear weapons plant where he had worked as a technician. He had then been kidnapped by Mossad, returned to Israel and convicted of treason and espionage.

Before he was freed in 2004, Vanunu was prohibited from talking to foreigners or leaving the country. Determined to overcome this, I assigned an Israeli journalist to interview him, with me sitting in the background. One copy of our film was impounded that night when being couriered out, but a second copy got to London. Soon afterwards while driving through the outskirts of Tel Aviv my luck ran out. "

OK so then the article talks about what it means to have his luck run out.

If true, using the names of relatives in a kidnapping operation isn't exactly bright...

Uh?

This is old news.

Part of his probation was that he could not talk to the press. This is not unique, many government spies and infiltrators in the USA have agreed not to talk to the press as part of their parole agreement.

Vanunu violated this agreement, KNOWING the Israeli judicial system would honor the probation agreement and arrest Vanunu - thereby making him a martyr and demonstrating the "ruthlessness" of Israel even though many of Israel's critics do the same thing on a daily basis.

Hell, Britain simply deports citizens or residents who they deem to be "not good for the general welfare of the state."

Don't break the law. It's a shame they released him. People get life for far less in the USA.

LOL! Another example of what passes for journalism in Britain. Israel's secret intelligence is exemplary, and has saved thousands of American, Israeli, and European lives. I say it is the most morally defensible intelligence agency because it acts on the well being of the Israel state - and does not harm Israel unlike organizations like MI6 or CIA who have directly collaborated with enemies who then kill US and Britain citizens.

Mossad is green peace compared to the next best. This journalist is a joke and is simply milking the hate Israel bandwagon for all its worth.

MI6 should kidnap him and send him to Jordan, then he can see what REAL torture is like.

I'm shocked and outraged that IAEC has not been allowed full access to a potential nuclear weapons program currently undertaken by Israel!!1

It's a good thing that we don't apply the same standards to their neighbors!!!11!!!!

Israel is not a member of the IAEA, thus it does not need to meet its obligations. Just as India and Pakistan have never been investigated by the IAEA.

So, once again fallout, your post as been demolished.

Nonsense! The MOSLEMS!!!1 (!!!111!!!) created TERRISMS and them moslems sure don't surf! A fine nation of the Jewish people such as Israel must surely be supported so that they may, God Willing, trigger the Rapture.

When the rapture inevitably comes, they goy like me will be thankful and waving a whole-lot at the Jews as we make our way into the heavens.

God Bless Israel, and God Bless America!

Lets start throwing guesses here, what would happen if this guy was an Arab and leaked his country nuclear program. Hey, or even an American! Surely not only 18 years on prison?

wwswimming, your points might or might not be valid, but when you come to represent the Arab side and call Israel a police state, that just gets caught in the collective bullshit filter.

Why don't we start with much lesser things in regards to holding Israel's neighbors up to standards? Lets see: democracy, free market, corruption, human rights, women equality, freedom of worship (tough life for non Muslims, eh). You can go on with education, technology, GDP per capita, and the list goes on.

Israel has never been at the standards of its neighbors and I'm not sure the nuclear program is the first place to start from.

Obviously the world feels more comfortable when a Western, democratic, open country and last but not least Non-Muslim having nukes than it would feel towards Syria, for example - just like you would feel more comfortable with your Mormon neighbor walking around with assault rifle than your Muslim neighbor. Statistics, you know.

Good for them! It's not like ANYBODY likes them anyways. I for one am glad they have nukes, when crazies like Palestine are allowed to use humans as sheilds en mass, and the international scene JUMPS DOWN ISRAEL'S THROAT every single time a soldier even LOOKS at anything resembling a human.

Haha! One has to wonder what the "international scene" truly consists of. Saudi Arabia? Egypt? Belgium?

Seeing as how the UN has become a beacon of anti-semitism - confirmed by many officials, including Kofi Anna - it is suspect why so-called "enlightened" nations such as Britain and France continue to be joined at the hip with the organization.

Notice the complete lack of discussion regarding anti-terror campaigns by US, Britain, Saudi Arabia, and India - but constant obsession and condemnation of Israel over largely irrelevant actions comparatively speaking.

There's certainly enough stuff to legitimely criticize Israel for - the ill-considered, poorly executed and ultimately futile war on Lebanon a couple years ago is just one of them, but your ravings just expose you for what you really are - a hatemongering fool and antisemite.

An Israeli soldier could bayonet an infant and you pieces of shit would line up to defend him, so of course everything seems anti-semitic to you.

To be fair - unless I am mistaken - Israel hasn't pledged to destroy and irradicate any of their neighbors. If you act crazy and threaten everyone people are a bit more scared of you getting nuclear weapons

It's amazing how you talk about Israel being superior in human rights ! a country that was based on terror, massacres, and stealing people's land that continues to live by those practices.

You're talking about yourself right? Because that's what we Americans did to the indians.
