Apparently the software makers got smart... Spybot couldn't take care of it, "because it was already in use". I couldn't stop it from the task manager (XP)... every time I clicked to stop the process, it popped up somewhere else on the list. So, I had to wait for the computer to reboot and run spybot immediately upon the reboot. Well, winnet is smart enough to keep that from happening. It prevented spybot from running on the reboot, and re-enabled/ reinstalled all the software I deleted and removed from the registry (and/or stopped using msconfig). And, when I try to uninstall the software it's associated with, it takes me to some crappy website and tries to install even more stuff.

2 hours later... This computer is clean! Evil spirits are gone!
GRRRR, and it's my kids computer.. I just installed a large hosts file, and am blocking everything I can think of that they might find appealing to download. I don't want to go through this again!

I actually had to do the same thing to my sister's computer today. What a fscking hassle. HijackThis + Spybot + Adaware = cleanliness though.
