Freaking rat chewed a wire on the furnace....again....last night. Woke up to a balmy 53F in the house.

*sigh* Nothing like crawling around under your house at 6am for a few hours when it's 20F outside. Got the wire fixed, blocked his entryway into the furnace with sheet metal and a few bricks and put traps and poison everywhere. Hopefully that's the last time I'll have to wake up like that. :frown:

53F in a house is bad? It's close to zero outside (pretty damn cold inside too) and I am not running the heat.:( Can't afford it.

Yes. Code Enforcement got a call and will be receiving an official complaint (with lovely pictures) from me in the mail. Hopefully that will get this rat thing straightened out since I know their food source sure as hell isn't my house.

I woke up, did my usual routine, and was fine until I got to the MARTA station. I think I have some sort of stomach virus, and I now feel like complete sh!t.

Yeah, but at least you weren't crawling through rat turds at 6am. :p

You positive it is a rat and not a opossum?

Absolutlely. There's no way something as big as a possum could get inside the furnace. The openings I blocked are only about 2" in diameter.

Plus, I've worked in labs for years.....I know rat crap when I see it. :p

I had a similar problem in the dump I call home right now. The solution I used was traps and poison... EVERYWHERE... Rat genocide took place and now I have a rodent-free environment.

I think while I am building my new home I will put rat poison throughout the crawlspaces and attic areas... maybe even between a few studs in the walls... try and fix the problem before it starts in the new place.

Screw that. No reason to pay $100+ per month to run the heat, when I can run my computer for ~$10 per month and generate a decent amount of heat.

I'd kill for 53 in the house. It's been as low as 38 some days, and rarely gets above 45.
