The woman and I both bought iPods today so now I need to rip cds. I decided to buy a 500gb external HD to hold all the music so now I have close to 1000 cds to rip. :(

Good thing I have plenty of beer.

Yeah, I'm ripping CDs too. I've got a freaking Core 2 Duo with 4GB of memory, and it still absolutely craps itself when it's reading from the DVD drives.

I'm ripping on a TBred 1700+ (OCed to 1.85 GHz) with 1.0gb ram and a 52x CDRW.

Sounds like a good job for the wife.

She can barely cook much less run a computer.

LOL, better hope she doesn't read your posts :p

If she could read I'd worry. :p

Actually, she'd agree with me so no issues.

I had to rip about 400 CDs a few years back. I did 20 a day for a month with some skipped days thrown in.

I could rip your average CD in about 4 minutes.

Luckily I work from home so it wasn't too much of a hassle.

I did make the mistake of ripping them at 192VBR (lame's extreme mode) instead of lossless. OH well.

So if she doesn't cook, what does she do? What would you say she does here on a weekly basis? Why can't the engineers go directly to the customer?

(lame attempt at a joke, sorry)

... she sounds like a bot named Boten ANNA.

she can read 1's and 0's in a certain language.

she can cook if she was programmed with robotic arms?

otherwise I've given up and say that she's probably a jungle girl who doesn't read or write and never cooks 'cuz she prefers her food raw.

anyway, you ought to be single minded if you're just gonna burn CD's and do nothing on the side and get drunk. you should be double minded, get someone with a laptop to help you out?

two heads are better than one.

at this point, I'm just writing a bunch of stupid stuff. alright, now I'm off to my friend's place.

don't take personally anything I said, I'm kind of a robot myself.

oh yeah, if you ever get the chance? there's this really cute Anime called Naruto, watch it.

sike. Naruto sucks. bye.

How long does each one take? I remember ripping enough music to fill my Olympus M: Robe and each was talking 4-5 minutes/disc with an FX-55 and an NEC 3550 DVD/CDR.

About 3-4 minutes per disc.

I had to use the software that came with the M:Robe since it's proprietary like the iPod. No drag and dropping with this one. That would explain the crappy rip times with a fairly fast CPU.

I hated doing my collection. I used audiograbber and 9 CD-rom drives because I am a right lazy bastard.

how are those related?

she can barely change the oil, much less rebuild an engine. that makes sense to me.
