What a great weekend!

I'll start out by saying that some strange routing problem has been preventing me from even getting to the forums/website from home since last Wednesday. Supposedly my ISP is working on correcting it even tho its dying somewhere in Sprint's equipment.

The real fun came Saturday night when my harddrive decided to take a sh*t:| What fun that was. Everything, gone. The real pisser is that when I got the drive, D740 80giger it was making what I thought were strange sounds. Now, 6 months later, poof. I guess I should have followed my instincts and kept a backup at that point. Went out and bought a 80gig WD while the Maxtor is away at RMA. I don't even care about 99% of the stuff I lost, just all my Outlook stuff, e-mails and contacts. The contacts are more or less backed up on my CLIE but 3 years worth of e-mails gone. Ugh, that more or less ruined yesterday. To add insult to injury, the download for my ATI TV-Wonder kept dying. Took me 5 tries to get it:|:| And freaking XP decided to make my boot partition F: WTF is up with that? Argh, I hope this isn't an omen seeing as it is the start of the new year.

Sounds like you need to take one yourself...

I recommend reformatting all and reinstalling all
always makes life easier to start out fresh
of course you'll lose all your pr0n but you can always get it back 🙂

Who cares about the pr0n. Besides, I can't recover anything anyway. Hardware failure. Drive isn't even detected during boot. Only way I might get something back is some surgery.

that's funny. i have a d740x 80gigger plus one in a dell that makes funny noises from the beginning.. and they're no where near as quiet as people have said they were (it's the fluid bearing version).. but it's run fine since i got it..

but i guess a backup is always nice. just got a 60gigger with a usb 2.0 external enclosure for just this purpose.

i feel your pain though. i had a 80gb seagate barracuda iv (will never buy a bare drive again at frys, only retail from now on) die on me awhile ago without any backups..

Celeron 1100A @ 1466.
ASUS CUBX (hacked)

i doubt that helped any. if you have a DVD+rw then you have no excuse for not having a backup.
I have my puter do a daily backup of my essentials to my CDRW around 12:00am
completely painless and has saved my ass a few times

I doubt it was that. The external controller is still on the PCI bus and still at 33mhz. The hack for an "A" celeron is so basic anyway. If anything, it might be the fact that I'm using 133 bus.

Anyway, for the most part everything is back up and running. Now if they'd fix that routing problem so I could get to AT I'd be a happy camper.

For the record. today is going much better. Just got into work.

Sorry to hear that about your hd, I had a deathstar die on me a couple weeks ago. I lost a lot of pr0n and mp3's. 🙁

Not that I'm any better, but doesn't a geek like yourself know to at least back up your personal data?

Oh, and sorry to hear about the drive failure.

you know that people are 4 times more likely to complain about something bad that happened than compliment something good that has happened? I guess its in our genes, the whiny human race.

that sucks.

but you know it's bad when you're complaining about what happened to your computer of the weekend, and not your wang.

Or is that a good thing?😕
