what a great offer on my ebay auction

I am selling an old laptop on ebay (not linking, not advertising). I received a fantastic offer on it today. A guy with 0 feedbacks who made his account this very day from Singapore sent me the following. Of course I wrote explicitly in my auction I am not shipping outside of the US.

Hello seller,I pay US$1000 for your item on auction and i will make out your payment to you via bidpay. Can you be able to release the item for shipment as soon as the payment is Approved and confirmed by bidpay? If YES,send in your name and address so as for payment making.Regards,

For something with a buy it now under $200, that seems a bit ridiculous. Is there any chance of it being legit? I am guessing if I agreed I would receive an email from a fake bidpay service with a fake site and fake money.

Don't ship until you have $1000 in cash in your hands, and your bank has completely cleared all transfers.

Nope, these days the cash will clear and the check isn't revealed as fake for about a month...at which point your bank will hold you accountable

Scammers are getting clever these days :|

When I was selling my car on craig's list, I got several of these "offers." See what CL has to say about it - Link

And when you have that money in your hands, send him the P-P-P-Powerbook

I told him that I don't have bidpay and only have paypal and if he used paypal, he could get the auction for $200 by clicking buy it now but I am not shipping out of the US. I probably won't hear from him again.

So what's suspicious about a guy in Asia offering 5x the asking cost? It's not as if they build computers or electronics over there...

pays 5x the amount it is worth.....

Ehrm...knock, knock...anyone home ? Common sense ? 🙂

AFAIK right now i would stay away from any transaction especially Italy and Singapore. I see many sellers *explicitely* stating that they do NOT deal with buyers from Singapore.
I guess there is a lot going on right now based off these countries.

Also...the 0 feedback and just the basics of this transaction should've made a red flag going up very quickly.

Send him an empty box with $1000 declared value on the customs form so he will have to pay the import tax.
