what a fricking scary event!!!

I just opened my new 20GB HDD, and i put it in the computer, after some wiggling and moving of wires, cdroms, etc.

Well, i turn the power on and nothing show up on boot. I turn it off and wiggle agian. boot up and nothing shows. Then i pull out the HDD and take a look at it. There is a nice scorth mark on the chipset. Damn, what the hell.

So i pop my old one back in and boot up. Neither DVD no cdrw start up. That sick feeling in my stomach hits. I check, both are plugged in to the IDE and the power supply. I think the hard drive somehow fried the 2 drive. I start getting really pissed off at this point, and start cursing up a storm.

I come back an hour later and try it again, un plug and plug, etc. Look at the IDE. They are both upside down. DOH. God, i hate that feeling you get when something fries.

anyways, HDD looks dead to me. Not sure.

i hate to break it to you but....putting the ide cable in upside down isn't going to fry anything

no, the HDD itself is actually scorched. This is the second bad HDD i have received from staples.

Opening a hard disk exposes a lot of critical, operating environment sensitive components to contamination. This will surely kill it fast!
