FORT LUPTON - Kristi Koger is 4-months pregnant. But that didn't stop her from chasing after a man who held up the Family Dollar discount store, where she just started working as a clerk.
She knows she's fortunate that she and her baby were not seriously hurt during the episode.
Wednesday morning, a man tried to buy some merchandise with a bad credit card and then reached into the cash drawer and grabbed some money.
"I screamed at the top of my lungs - 'no!' I started running after him," said Koger. She says she didn't think about her own safety, she just reacted.
"When I was in the hospital, yeah, I was kind of frightened," she admits.
Koger chased the man out of the store and tried to keep him from leaving.
She reached into the vehicle trying to get the keys out of the ignition. She says he grabbed her, pulled her through the window into the vehicle and started pounding her in the face with his fist.
The robber then pulled Koger out of the car and beat her some more.
"As I was on the ground he had kicked me," she recalls.
"People have died doing exactly what happened in this case," says Fort Lupton Police Chief Jerry Garner. He says he does not recommend that anyone try to stop a robber.
"We admire her bravery, but it's not what we encourage people to do. Let them have the store if they want," he said.
Police are searching for the suspect's vehicle - a silver 1998 Honda Civic with Colorado license number 637-FBK. The car was stolen in Aurora earlier Wednesday.
