What a Difference Looks Make

What a large difference looks make in this world.

Recently had surgery to remove all four of my wisdom teeth, all of which were impacted. Due to the complicated nature of the placement of the wisdom teeth in my jaw, they had to crack two of the teeth into three pieces each. This resulted in my face swelling far more than is usual, in an asymmetrical fashion, temporarily making my face deformed.

Right away I noticed that in places I went, treatment was different:
1. Grocery clerks stopped offering to carry my bags to my car
2. Waitresses no longer replaced my tea or refilled my water without asking
3. Starbucks' Baristas stopped smiling and greeting me, they just stared and waited for me to make an order.

However, this was only among young and middle-aged people. I noticed that the old folks all realized that I'd had surgery and were very kind and supportive.

Face is almost back to normal, it's been an educational expeerience.

I had the same problem when my face got swollen due to an infection after getting my wisdom teeth out... it really really sucked, and people would just stare... pissed me off.

I've never had a grocery store clerk offer to carry my bags to my car, I thought they only did that when old ladies demanded it. Maybe I'm just ugly. 🙂

... and thats why I hate people

on the road, you'd probably treat a hot chick differently than an ugly old bag... ya know... flipping them the bird... etc...

EVERYONE knows treatments are in large part due to looks. Not everyone acts that way, but everyone knows it's a fact.

Do they actually call them baristas at Starbucks? That's kinda like calling someone who cooks at McDonald's a gourmet chef...

are you a guy or a girl?

if your a guy you must be a pretty weak looking dude if they are offerig to help you carry the groceries rather than offer you a shopping cart..

have you ever been called noodle arms?

Same thing happened to me (impacted, had to be cracked/broken to remove, etc..). But, for me, most everyone above 18 recognized the "chipmunk-cheeks" and asked if I'd just had my wisdom teeth pulled. I'd say yes and then get special treatment. Sympathy, free ice cream at restaraunts, etc....

Maybe just the people in your area suck. 😛

Of course they do. Starbucks is all about showing off just how pretentious you can be.
