this is not big news to many of you that follow tweaking regularly, but

if you are thinking - "yeah, I gotta build a new bigger, better, faster machine - for many $$$" ---- this is what I got by changing only the video card.

I share my upgrade -

old system:
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
Athlon 64x2 3800+
Corsair CMX512-6100XLPRO (1024)
ATI X800 GTO2 16

3DMark 06 - 1900
PassMark Performance Test - 495

new system:

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
Athlon 64x2 3800+
Corsair CMX512-6100XLPRO (1024)
evga 8800GT SSC 512

3DMark - 7645
PassMark Performance Test - 590

was it worth $300???

Back on the subject, yes...it looks like it was worth $300, if you're into gaming. If you are planning to build a new machine over the next six months or so, you've already got a really good video card.

You might also notice that picture quality of DVD movies on your new video card is vastly superior to the old x800.
