What a difference 7cfm makes!

This is one of those "feel good" threads. :)

55C to 49C in one, easy, 10-minute operation. :)

I run an OCed XP2100 B TBred (who doesn't?) anyway; I have an AX-7 on it with AS3. I was using a Vantec Stealth fan which is rated at 27cfm @ 2100 rpm. Very quiet fan.

Running P95 TT for an hour shot my CPU temp up to 55C. That temp is partially due to the fact that I have my cases' exhaust fans thermally controlled by the Antec Trupower PS (very quiet!).

55C is a little too warm for my tastes. So, I swapped out the HS's Vantec for an Antec BB fan, which is rated at 34cfm @ 2600 rpm.

A 6C drop, and the noise is very slightly louder...you can hear the higher speed fan a little, but it's very muffled b/c it's buried inside the case.

I'm happy.

I never hear much about Antec fans in here but that's about all I use now and I have no complaints. Actually, I went to a 92mm Antec for my SLK800. Quieter than the 80, which wasn't too bad to begin with. The 92 is nearly silent.

Antec makes some nice fans...I have learned thru experience that unless you undervolt things, all fans make some nosie...no such thing as a "silent fan."

I have some Antec BB fans that have been in multiple cases for a few years and they run just dandy. Antec rocks; all their products that I have bought/used have performed admirably and w/o complaint.

YIKEEEES! :Q :Q

And i thought my 51C was bad after an hours full load on my AXP 1800 Tbred A :Q

DannyBoy, was your 1800 OC'd?

Not originally.

I overclock it here and there, but im still using SDRAM and i cant oc my memory too much. Seeing as the K7S5A only supports FSB oc's if i oc my processor, i oc my memory. I dont want to fry my memory because i will still have use for it when i switch to DDR ;)

Why you ask anyway Mike? :)

i'm gonna stick a fan in front of my harddrives. i've decided they actually put out more heat than the processor. taped a meat thermometer against one of them and its running 105 F, or about 40.5 C. the amount of heat produced might be ok except i have 3 drives.

Not true my Fan is completely silent, hell it doesn't even move. :)

I have a 120mm Fan infront of them tucked away. Its my intake fan as well, so kills 2 birds with one stone....in a way .

My 2 hard drives used to be about 40-45C and now im lucky if they jump 30-35C.

Keeps me happy :D

How on earth do you expect it to make noise without it moving

i don't think 6 degrees is worth more noise unless your crashing. cpu's aren't worth squat, esp over time. if it burns in two years who gives a %#@.

I don't think that his noise level went up much, if any, though.

And remember, that's YOUR opinion. You noise freaks are crazy. I can't sleep without the low hum of my computer. Of course if I turn up all of the fans my case gets a little louder, but it's not unbearable. 6C is a pretty big difference. And if you haven't heard a PC Power & Cooling Silencer fan, then you don't know what silent is. Those things are DEAD silent IMO. I can hear them if I put my ear right next to them, but inside a case (even if it's right next to my head), I can't hear a thing. Not one peep. Truly amazing.

However, I also want to say that the reason for the drastic temp difference might be partly due to the Vantec being over-rated. I have heard that they put out more like 24 cfm. When put up against a PCP&C Silencer, the Silencer (also rated at 27 cfm) filled up a plastic bag faster than the Stealth. If it's true that the Stealth is putting out more like 24 cfm, then going to 34 cfm, you probably increased your airflow ~42%. That's a HUGE increase, especially when 24 cfm isn't nearly enough air to push against a heatsink to remove heat.

well, those stealth fans aren't that silent. i have a few myself. i dialed my 92mm intake stealth back a little with my fanbus. but with a few turns of knobs on the fanbus i can create a monsterous sound. have both the powersupply fans(antec) connnected to the fanbus. apparently antec runs their thermal control powersupply fans at about 50% most of the time as their max ever. cuz when i run the powersupply fans at max, my pc sounds like a dustbuster. its quite insane. i mean off the scale. i've had 6800rpm cpu coolers before, so i know what normal loud is, its still nothing compared to rewired antec powersuppy.

next time i go 120mm.

The Vantec fans are overrated; I can tell you that. They are quieter than standard Antec fans, but they aren't silent.

They did make a diff when I had four case fans...my noise level dropped by 3db as measured with a SPL meter (yes, I own one...bought it for the HT, but it comes in handy elsewhere too.)

I ran P95 TT overnight (11 hours and change) and my CPU temp was 49C. With the Vantec fan it would've been 55C.

My case is almost imperceptibly louder...from a few feet away you still can't hear the case, but up close, there's a low-pitched hum type fan noise...very muffled by the case itself.

I know that CPU aren't worth squat, but who wants to buy a new one before it's time? Admittedly, I am pretty much overclocking the snot out that CPU. 200FSB. :Q Programs are decidedly more snappy now. :D

edited my post. antec powersupply fans seem to run at 50% max, cuz i wired mine to the fanbus and at max they are dustbuster level noisemakers.

my thing is to install a few 92mm+ fans and run em slow. high pitched noise is more annoying then low pitched noise any day.

Agreed. I wish I could fit 120mm fans front and back in my case. That's what my box at work has; you can't hear the damn thing at all.

Never gets above 35C (and man is it quiet compared to the Volcano 6cu which was cooling the previous CPU - Athlon 850). Looks cool too. :D

Just wish I could overclock more on this K7S5A board. Maybe after I update the BIOS...
Problem is I don't see an option to up the FSB beyond 133 in the BIOS. I suppose I need to read a o'cing article?

Oh and gratz michael :)

What does the 2100+ XP's overclock to? I'm still running an old 1700+. :(

I've got a new mobo, an A7N8x 'lux running dual PC2700. Do you just crank the FSB up to 166(333)?

Let me guess... it's the 2100+ T-Bred's that overclocks well? Any particular model/stepping? I've got pricewatch up, I'm going to just order one and get it over with...
