Hey, I've got a great idea... Let's give parents even LESS opportunity to be a good parent.

Yeah, this is complete BS. How does that attorney sleep at night???

I really don't see the issue here. The mother isn't going to jail or being sued or anything, she just had her testimony struck down.

If she does get sued, I might have an issue here, but no one should be convicted because their privacy rights were violated.

Someone needs to run over Michael Tario with a car.

A parent, or any person, should have the right to listen to ANY conversation made in thier own home on a phone line they pay for.

Yeah, that's a stupid loophole in the Wash law, I somehow doubt that's what the law was meant to be used for. So the kid was still convicted of theft right....even though the testimony wasn't admissable in court?

Blown out of proportion. It isn't saying that you can't spy on your kid, it says that information gleamed from such a case cannot be used as evidence in a trial.

What the law states is that you must have consent from all parties involved before a conversation may be intercepted or recorded. The federal wiretap law has been interpreted to allow parents to record their children's conversations. But WA is one of eleven states that specifically say that parents are not excluded. (Not sure of the other ten.)

So yes... In WA, it is illegal to spy on your kids via intercepting their phone conversation.
