I just started my internship today..

The company is pretty small.. and I met the VP of finance the first day.

He is extremely busy. and the whole office is also extremely busy, they just expanded to this new space, so a lot of computers and files are being moved around. They dont even have a computer for me to work on, so I am currently using the CFO's computer in his office (since he is away for first 2 days)...

Soooo I am just sitting around in this comfy herman miller chair, browsing atot....

EDIT: second day..

ok my boss gave me something to do finally... its basically sorting excel data... I finished it before lunch. Now I am just waiting for him to give me more work...

Lalalalalalal..... getting paid while browsing ATOT .... nothing wrong with that

EDIT: third day...

sooo I finally have my own cubicle... this morning I had to come in at 7!!! I hope thats not on a regular basis. This morning I was working on some spreadsheet, and the morning went pretty quick... now its 2:30 and I am waiting for work again... lahh deee daaaa.....

If you're bored, change the CFO's computer wallpaer to go gay pr0n. JK. Sit back and realize. Just to remember to clear IE history before you leave.

I have my own login account, so I guess whatever I do to this computer stays in my login...

Umm, that sounds like you're working at my company. We're small, I'm away, and I left my Herman Miller chair. I heard they had someone else using it while I was gone, so it better not be you! :)

I'm serious too.

I interned at an engineering company (consulting) after my sophomore year of HS, thinking it would be good experience and would look good on my college app.

Anywho, I was worthless. This was two years ago when the economy was really bad, they had NO WORK, people were getting laid off left and right, and I found myself occupying an office that had recently been vacated, properly fileing documents that had been piled in closets for years.

And surfing the web.

It was not a fun job. Sure, I got paid for doing nothing, but I really don't like to do nothing.

The next year I got a real job at a machine shop and did good, interesting, honest work. They were having economic troubles, too = opportunities for expanded responsibilities for the summer help.

I was managing myself and about 20% of the products we sold by the end of the summer. It was great, the sales people would bring out their orders, and it would be up to me to go from order to product boxed and waiting to be shipped. That, and I was doing this for the most popular products they made. I loved it. But I can't go back there, because the guy who hired me in the first place (good friend of the family) got laid off, and it would be bad form for me to return. And things wouldn't be the same under new managment. I made some cool friends, though, and got to try to train a bunch of losers to replace me. Three of them got b!tched out and fired within one week (not by me) and they eventually took someone who had already been working there to do my job.

I really enjoyed it. Getting paid to work > Getting paid to do nothing

My 2nd day was alot better... It was pretty much non stop work, which I like more just because it makes the day go by alot faster.

I would rather work for a company where I have work to do rather than a company where I sit on my butt to do nothing. I hate it when my mind rots because I browse the net 8 hours a day. When I have work, time flies by because I'm no longer constantly watching the clock.
