I'd love it if the wife made more than I do.

I'd have no qualms if she brought home all the bacon and I stayed home on my lazy ass 🙂

Me too, me too... I clean house, cook and get the kids ready really well... I want to be a househusband... 🙁

That's because they tax your bonus check as if that is the kind of check you always get. Therefore, you're taxed at the highest tax bracket. It evens out when you do your tax returns.

That doesn't add up. My "regular" pay checks could be 3x higher than my bonus checks, but my bonus checks still get taxed at that nearly 50% rate.

If that 1/3 the size bonus check was the type of check I always got, wouldn't it be a lower tax rate than my "regular" pay check?

Trying to think. That was how it was explained to me by the finance guy at my first job as best as I can remember. I probably forgot something. At any rate, the bonus check is taxed at the highest tax bracket but it does even out when you do your returns...unless you are already at the highest tax break.

Ahhhhhhh my dream job.

Too bad she'll only get a check for like $4500 after Uncle Sam bends her over and has his way.

Because I hate having paved highways, and national defense, and ... do I really need to go on?

when was the last time the federal government paved a highway?

the military is one of the few federal expenditures I fully support.

You do know that vast amounts of federal tax dollars go to states to fund road construction/maintenance?

You had the right idea. I think the philosphy behind it is so that the bonus doesn't bump you into a new tax bracket and leave you short at the end of the year.

my wife calls me and says guess how much bonus I got this year ?

$10k. Unreal. I get like $2-3k every year.

I should work in the finance sector... :frown:

I got one bonus of $1500 at 5 years. Quit complaining.
I would think $2-3k is pretty standard across the board, no ? I wasn't complaining about mine.

Are we in the same industry? IT Admin here...
yah IT sector (web dev job). Cost of living factored perhaps ?

Don't forget about the $200,000 toilets and the Golden Fleece retirement benefits for our politicians. Nevermind about the money our politicians spend on strippers and prostitutes.
