my wife calls me and says guess how much bonus I got this year ?

$10k. Unreal. I get like $2-3k every year.

I should work in the finance sector... :frown:

Too bad she'll only get a check for like $4500 after Uncle Sam bends her over and has his way.

I barely make more than her anymore. 🙁 She'll beat me by next year at the rate they've been giving her raises too. Sugar momma is right.

That's not the point. The point is that bonus income gets HAMMERED in taxes. Sure you pay 15% or whatever on your normal pay, but bonus pay gets taxed at an incredibly higher rate. Around 44% or so.

That's because they tax your bonus check as if that is the kind of check you always get. Therefore, you're taxed at the highest tax bracket. It evens out when you do your tax returns.

when was the last time the federal government paved a highway?

the military is one of the few federal expenditures I fully support.

I would think $2-3k is pretty standard across the board, no ? I wasn't complaining about mine.

The year before I joined my last company they gave out $10k bonuses. The year I join they handed out piddly bonuses. Seems like I'm always late to the bonus party. Similar thing happened at my first company. My current company gave out bonuses and I got a full bonus after being here only 2 and a half months. I was pleasantly surprised as I exepected to get nothing.

That doesn't add up. My "regular" pay checks could be 3x higher than my bonus checks, but my bonus checks still get taxed at that nearly 50% rate.

If that 1/3 the size bonus check was the type of check I always got, wouldn't it be a lower tax rate than my "regular" pay check?

Are we in the same industry? IT Admin here...

I'd love it if the wife made more than I do.

I'd have no qualms if she brought home all the bacon and I stayed home on my lazy ass 🙂
