Waste of money if you ask me. 7800gt is almost identical speed and can be had for $250-$300. Anyways, evga or bfg. Dont get any other. :p

7800GT - $280 after MIR
7800GTX is $460 as you posted. It offers nothing even remotely close to 60% boost in performance. If you want to drop $460 on a new card, wait till R580/G71 in Jan/Feb. Get 7800GT for now, then sell it if you want.

Sounds like he wants a 7800GTX. I'd recommend an XFX 7800GTX. I may be biased though since I got a 7800GT from same mfg.

I agree with the others, at this point there's no real reason to purchase a GTX over a GT. I got the GTX simply because the GT wasn't out at the time of my purchase. If going the route of a GT, the EVGA 7800 GT CO should do you nicely :)

Edit: What card do you have now? Will you be able to wait for a month? Supposedly the R580 and G71 will be out (or at least info on them) late January. Provided you could wait a few weeks, I would go with that option.

GTX isnt worth it at $150 more than a 7800GT. the most difference you'll see is a longer card physically and about a 5-10 percent boost in framerates, and if you OC that 7800GT, it'll come very close and maybe even match a stock 7800GTX.

but if you're thinking about getting a 512MB GTX...then thats a totally different ballgame, hehe.

I have a x850xt in the computer I am replacing the new system with, but my problem is that the new board I got doesnt have any AGP slots on it, which is what the x850 is, so I NEED a new card to replace the x850 because if I dont, there wont be any video card in the new system.

Pretty hard to find a GTX512 right now though. If you can find one you're probably going to pay $750+ for one. Kinda glad I bought mine Nov. 12th from Monarch 2 days before the launch. I'd say get an EVGA GT or GTX. Then in Jan/Feb you could just trade up to a G71. :)

if you want you can, but good luck finding one thats in stock and thats a reasonable price...seriously!

as allies said, the refresh (i think) of the 7-series comes out in jan/feb so you could wait for that. if you dont want to wait, i personally think that the 7800GT is your best bet.

if you wait, just get a cheapo depo pci-e card now and wait till jan/feb to get the G71. play games on your X850pro system in the meantime if you can.

Sentry makes a good point - Get any EVGA card, and then if the G71 comes out in Jan/Feb and blows the doors off everything you can just step up to it :)

There's some logic there.

If not, IMO the Leadtek Extreme is the way to go.
